Ever need to ‘take a break’ in the middle of a movie but have no idea what you’re about to miss? Well RunPee.com‘s got your back! They list (mainstream) movies currently playing in theaters and mark out good moments to squeeze down the aisle and escape. They even have a iPhone app if you need it on the go.

Email N’ Walk is a nifty little app that can prevent curb slips and lamppost collisions. By using live images from the iPhone’s camera as a background, the app lets users write emails while keeping an eye on where they’re walking. Though it can’t mimic the exact functions of the email app (i.e. send an email) without being booted from the app store, it does segue smoothly from composition in Email N’ Walk to your Mail app where you can press send.

I enjoyed this article not only because it speaks to my personal (very-near) future, but because it also casts Gen Y (or Millenials, Echo boomers, etc.) in a positive light. It also articulates some of the more subtle nuances of the oh so spoken about, but often not spoken to, Gen Y.
When I was a Freshman in college, business oriented media still believed that Gen Y MUST change its far too casual, entitled, self-centered, distracted and scrambled behavior. It seems ever more clear that this is in fact not the case. The recession has shown that the contemporary corporation is completely outdated and can crumble to nothing in a matter of days. This has precipitated a shift in business cultures and journalism and with it the perspective has changed. Business journalists now more frequently paint Gen Y as a source of hope and the seed of a more dynamic and undefined future. We have been designated the masters of the future dynamism and are noted as sorcerers in the craft of constant change and adaptation. It seems to me that those writers who still scrutinize us most, seem to be those who understand us (and our behaviors) least. Luckily, the time has come for Gen Y to enter the adult realm and show just exactly who is behind the Facebook profile and what it is we can contribute.
Hey mister dj….. put a rec-uhhh ehem…
..With the latest update of iTunes, the now deceased Party Shuffle playlist was relaunched as the new iTunes DJ feature. It works in basically the same way as Party Shuffle however Apple added a new little tidbit… song requests complete with voting rights! Hmmm… So now, all your friends (or at least those with iPhones) can request a song via their iPhone or iPod Touch as long as they are connected to the same WiFi as your computer and have the Apple Remote application installed (and pair the remote with iTunes). WEEEIIIRDDD. This is weird!!! But genius! I’ve been to many a house party and witnessed some heated debacles due to guests who hijack the playlist. Perhaps iTunes DJ is a solution for houseparty peace and diplomacy? Or maybe it will just serve as another means to harass the host about the music. Time will tell. BUT in the meantime… if you wanna know how to set this up and do a lil experiment here are the steps.
1. YOU GONNA HAVE A PARTAYYYY so you need some music. Click iTunes DJ in the side panel and click continue

2. Now WHATCHA GONNA PLAY? Hmmm…. iTunes DJ can pull songs from the entire library or a single playlist. This window is iTunes DJ in its normal playing state. (Note the next song is Love To Love You Baby by No Doubt (an excellent remix…)

3. CHANGE THE SETTINGS: Click Settings… and make sure these options are checked to enable voting:

4. CHECK YOUR PHONE: If you are connected to the same WiFi as the computer playing iTunes DJ, then you can connect to it via the free Apple Remote application. Once you connect you’ll see this:

5. REQUEST A SONG: Click that GIANT button. It will take you here…. now you can pick a song!
I want Beautiful Life by Ace of Base mmmmmmm yeyahhh…

6. CHECK THE PLAYLIST: After you request a song it will automatically be moved to the next position on the playlist (if you enabled that option in Step 3). Users can request any song in the iTunes library and vote on any song that is pulled into iTunes DJ (requested songs are automatically added to iTunes DJ.. obvi). The song with the most votes gets played next. Check it….
My requested song with my one vote looks like this on the iPhone:

And like this on the computer:

SHAZZAAMMMM and there you have it.
Let me know if anyone actually uses this! The results could be interrrrresttting….
Yes its finally come (well almost)! Copy/Paste will finally reach the iPhone after two years without the function. Damn, that took a while. Anyway, Apple held a conference on March 17th to present details on the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 update. The basic run down of new/tweaked features goes as follows:
- Peer-To-Peer Connection via Bluetooth (for multi-player games and such)
- PORTRAIT COMPOSITION for Texting and Email (FINALLY goodbye little keyboard)
- Push Notification for Apps
- Cut, Copy + Paste
- MMS & Text forwarding (another overdue feature)
- Voice Memos (great for lectures)
- Spotlight for iPhone (you can search your entire phone like you do on your comp)
- Note Sync (another previous annoyance)
- Shake to Shuffle the iPod (shaking is always fun)
- Accessory Interaction/Control (a very intriguing example showed how it can be used to monitor diabetes)
Basically, this update covers all the shit that should have been in the box from day one. Thank you! And its about damn time.
This update will be free like the previous two, but iTouch users will continue to pay around $10 to update. This got me intrigued as to how Apple is financing the development of the iPhone OS. Yes, they’re selling a lot of iPhones and that definitely covers the hardware side of things, but the software is a completely different realm. There certainly aren’t enough iTouch users to pay for development on this scale which explains why Apple intercepts 30% of the sale of an application in their AppStore. I though that was a hefty chunk to take from the developers some of whom are one-man enterprises, but who would pick up the tab otherwise? iPhone users. The freeloaders thus far when it comes to the software mainly because they invested the most in hardware (compared to an iTouch). Would anyone be willing to pay to update their iPhones if it meant developers generate more profit from their labor and develop bigger/better apps faster? Hmmmm…..
Four square is right up there with tether ball as my all time favorite playground games. This site however has nothing to do with the actual game (of course). Foursqaure just launched as the reincarnation of the recently deceased Dodgeball. It works in basically the same way: users log in and state a place to go and an activity to do. As the site says
Think less “the food here is top notch!” and more “Go here, do this” or “Eat here, order this” (for example: “Go to Dumont Burger, order the Mac and Cheese”).
Each user gets twelve slots to fill with the “coolest” things to do in their city. Other than finding out some random info about NYC, I think Foursquare sounds like it could be a great platform for organizing everyone’s favorite public spectacle… FLASH MOBS! Everyone loves em. They’re silly, they’re quirky, they’re spontaneous, they’re fun! Join up and we’ll mob the Hershey’s store in Times Square and sing I Want Candy in the style of Kumbaya!
